Man arrested after providing false identity, and police learned he was wanted on warrants

BEDFORD – An Elwood man was arrested after Bedford Police Department Sgt. Faheem Bade
Sgt. Faheem Bade stopped the driver of a maroon Ford van after not being able to read the temporary license plate due to the plate cover.

The driver stopped near Becky Skillman Way and John Williams Boulevard.

Shawn Standifer

The driver, who police later identified as 43-year-old Shawn Standifer, was told why he was stopped and then handed Sgt. Bade another temporary license plate.

The driver told Sgt. Bade his name was Anthony E. King.

Sgt. Bade said the driver was nervous when asked his date of birth, which made Sgt. Bade realized something was not right.

Sgt. Bade ran the driver’s information and found that Anthony King’s driver’s license photo didn’t look like the driver. When confronted with that information, the driver provided the wrong last four social security numbers for King.

The driver continued to say he was Anthony King.

Sgt. Bade then learned that Anthony King was an alias for Shawn Standifer.

Sgt. Bade learned Standifer had nationwide extradition warrants out of Madison County. Standifer was detained on the outstanding warrants for failure to return to lawful detention after work release, dealing a controlled substance, and a new charge of identity deception.

Stone City Service and Collision Center towed the vehicle.
