Managed Health Services Earns NCQA Health Equity Accreditation

INDIANAPOLIS – Managed Health Services (MHS), a managed care organization that has been proudly serving the state of Indiana for over 25 years and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), recently earned the Health Equity Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

The NCQA Health Equity Accreditation gives healthcare organizations an actionable framework for improving health equity. This accreditation recognizes MHS for its commitment to delivering high-quality, equitable healthcare to its members and its ongoing commitment to eliminating health disparities to support better health outcomes.

“MHS has a long history of identifying and removing barriers to quality healthcare, which has a real impact on our members,” said MHS Plan President and CEO, Kevin O’Toole. “We’re honored to have this work recognized by NCQA through this accreditation. We will continue to make healthcare accessible to all of the Hoosiers we serve.”

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality. Accreditation standards are set high to enhance a plan’s quality of care continuously, and the review process includes rigorous on-site and off-site evaluations by a team of physicians and health plan experts. The NCQA Health Plan Accreditation shows members and providers that a health plan is well managed and delivers high-quality care and service, and Health Equity Accreditation demonstrates a health plan’s dedication to advancing health equity.

MHS is advancing its health equity mission through doula programs to improve maternal health outcomes. MHS has partnered with the Indiana Minority Health Coalition (IMHC) on their Community Doula Services Program, a free pregnancy assistance program created to target minority women between the ages of 15 and 35 who are either on or eligible for Medicaid. Additionally, members can participate in MHS’ evidence-based Doula On Demand program, which offers the option of virtual visits or no-cost transportation, and the new MHS Doula and Me program for support before, during, and after pregnancy and childbirth.
