View Part 2 of ‘When the Smoke Clears’video series exploring first responder mental health

INDIANA – On Wednesday, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security released the second installment of the new video series ‘When the Smoke Clears.’

This powerful project explores the state of mental health among fire, EMT, and other public safety personnel. The open discussion around this topic allows first responders to look differently at how they approach their mental well-being and reminds all of us to ask for and offer help when it is needed the most.

The first episode of ‘When the Smoke Clears’ discussed the traditional stigma surrounding mental health and the forward-thinking required to overcome that obstacle.

This episode explores whether progress is being made in talking openly about behavioral health concerns. It also provides firsthand accounts of what experienced fire personnel and clinicians have seen and heard regarding this issue.

This episode, ‘Bringing Mental Health into the Open’ is the second of four installments of this panel discussion. You can find all past episodes on the IDHS YouTube channel and the IDHS Behavioral Health page.

State Fire Marshal Steve Jones

“Take time today to examine your mental well-being and ensure you are the best you can be before hitting the streets today,” said Steve Jones, State Fire Marshal. “Offer help to anyone you know who may be struggling.”
