BEDFORD- The 49th Annual Limestone 5K Run/Walk will occur on Saturday, July 13th. This is one of the oldest races in the state’s southern half. The proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County. “The race starts and finishes at the building, and some of our kids join in as well, which is really cool,” said Ashley Gilstrap, Director of Resource Development for the Club, “it’s a great chance to introduce the community to the club and our mission.” With over 100 entries last year, she hopes to meet or exceed that level of participation in this year’s race.
It is one of the oldest races in the state’s southern half. The first one took place in 1975, and the only year it has not occurred since then was 1986. The Limestone 5K has a long history of producing challenging competition and fast times. The course begins and ends at Parkview Track, touring a very flat residential neighborhood. The spectators are treated to the final quarter-mile, which takes place on the track.
From north or south of Bedford, take the 16th Street exit (near the large American flag) and head east to the 4th light. Turn right on Brian Lane Way. The track is on the right side of the street.
From the east, follow U.S. 50 west into town. Turn right at the 16th Street intersection. Travel to the second light and turn left. The track is on the right side of the street.
Registration is from 6:30 to 7:45 am, with the race kicking off at 8 am.
