BEDFORD—The Bedford Indiana Rotary Club hosted its annual fish fry, a cherished community event that blends delicious food and camaraderie. Featuring golden-fried fish, chicken, homemade sides, and desserts, it’s a gathering that supports local projects and fosters fellowship. Held this year at the Knights of Columbus Hall, it brings together residents to enjoy a meal and strengthen community bonds in a lively atmosphere.
Jim Cessna, Bedford Rotarian since 1987, was on hand serving at the fish fry. He stressed the fact that the funds raised go back into the community. “We (Rotary International) are trying to end Polio, and we are almost there,” he said of what the Club does with funds raised, “it goes directly back into the community projects we do.” The money raised will also be used to fund their international student exchange program, a book program for kindergarteners, and so much more.
The event has been held over the 4th of July weekend for over 20 years, and people return for the food and fellowship they love. The Fish Fry traditionally has been held at the Thornton Park pavilion, but this year, the Rotary Club teamed up with the Bedford Knights of Columbus to use their facility and keep people out of the heat. A lot of work goes into an event like this. “25 to 30 Rotary Club members and their spouses volunteered, so this is a big thing. We have been working on this pretty heavy for about two months.” Cessna said.
The Dr. Dan Schaffer Memorial Fish Fry was a huge success, which means a lot to our community. The funds will contribute directly to scholarships, educational programs, and community projects. Selflessly giving time and effort is something the Rotarians are willing to do for our community, and the results and benefits of their labor are not overlooked.
