Obituary: Ann Mary Ryan

December 19, 1938 – July 8, 2024

Ann Mary Ryan, 85, of Oolitic, went home to her heavenly father at 11:12 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024, at IU Health Hospice House.

She was Born December 19, 1938, in Corydon, Indiana, the daughter of Travis and Marie (Smith) Price. She married Jim Ryan on February 26, 1955, and he preceded her in death.

Ann graduated from Bedford High School later in life and was self-employed with her husband, Jim, managing Oolitic Manor View Apartments and the farm. She was a full-time wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and soon-to-be great-great-grandmother. Everyone who met Ann knew she was a Saint and an angel walking among us. Her words were honored wherever and with whomever she talked. Folks knew she kept her word, and often, they grew to love her and seek her advice, humor, and company. During her lifetime, she managed the business and maintained the books while her husband, Jim, constructed many homes in the Oolitic Manor that are still used today. Together, they built and managed Manor View Apartments with 96 units. In her early years and up until some members passed to their heavenly rewards, Ann was an avid member of the “Tally Ho” card club that, monthly, set the bar for the ladies to gather, work out the problems of the world, and entertain as well as any big city tea party. She was a member of the Oolitic United Methodist Church and was the treasurer for many years. Ann loved life and her kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren, and they lovingly referred to her as “Mimmie,” “Mammaw,” or “Grandma.”

Four children survive Ann: Terri Brown and husband, David, of Oolitic; Kenny Ryan and wife Debbie, of Oolitic; Deitra “Dee” Beyrer and husband, Andy, of Fishers; Matt Ryan and wife, Joni Sue, of Bedford; five grandchildren, Nicholas Wininger and wife, LeeAnn, Mandy Baker and husband, Christopher, Ali Beyrer, Ky Groover, and Evan Beyrer; seven great-grandchildren, Mya Meier, and husband, Sam, Gabe, Garrett, Isaac, Chloe, Hadley, and Holden. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Sharon Harrison, one brother, Carl Price, and a daughter, Jamie (in infancy).

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day and Carter Mortuary, with Bro. Taylor Quinley officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the Mortuary. Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com.
