ORLEANS—Orleans town officials accepted the third and final historic mural last week during a brief ceremony held at the town hall. For the final original art piece, Artist Adam Long (middle) was inspired by the Monon South Trail project and created this historic Orleans Monon Homecoming scene from long ago.
The painting is partly based on vintage art originally created for the famed Indiana Monon. The mural project was done in partnership with the Orange County Economic Development Partnership (OCEDP), Orange County Community Foundation, and Orange County Tourism Commission as part of the READY Match Grant Program. Pictured left to right are Town Councilman Randy Clark, Orleans Clerk Robert F. Henderson, Long, Councilman John H. Lindley, and Skylar Whiteman, Executive Director of the OCEDP. Henderson noted that the location for the mural had not been completely determined but hoped it could be incorporated with the new Monon South Trailhead, which was to be constructed east of the town square and just off Hwy 337.
