PITTSBORO – On July 13th, 2024, Indiana residents showcased their dedication to environmental stewardship by participating in a cleanup drive organized by Dr. Shri Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan (DSNDP). This global non-profit partnered with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for an Adopt-A-Highway initiative near Devonshire Drive, Pittsboro, IN, on US 136 between Mile Markers 65 and 66.
Nine enthusiastic volunteers from Hendricks County removed a significant amount of waste from the roadside, collecting a total of 12 large bags, which translates to roughly 300 pounds of trash. This is just one example of DSNDP’s ongoing commitment to cleanliness across the United States.
Guided by the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The world is one family), DSNDP has been spearheading nationwide cleanliness drives since July 2022, working collaboratively with the US government. These initiatives are carried out under the leadership of the organization’s founders, Dr. Shri Appasaheb Dharmadhikari and Dr. Shri Sachindada Dharmadhikari.
This recent Indiana effort builds upon previous successes within the state. Through the Adopt-A-Highway program, DSNDP has already coordinated cleanup activities in three Indiana cities. A total of 66 volunteers dedicated 157 hours to collecting 158 bags of trash, amounting to approximately 2370 pounds of waste removed from Indiana’s roadways.
DSNDP’s reach extends far beyond Indiana. The organization collaborates with a network of volunteers across 18 states and 73 cities in the US. Their nationwide cleanups encompass 23 different programs, including Adopt-A-Highway/Park/Beach/Street/River initiatives. Through these efforts, DSNDP has engaged over 2100 volunteers, resulting in the collection of more than 34,000 pounds of trash. This not only benefits the environment but also translates to significant cost savings for local governments.
In recognition of their impactful work, DSNDP has received 53 certificates and 51 signboards from various state and county governments across the nation. Their environmental stewardship extends beyond cleanliness drives as they are also involved in tree plantation initiatives in 15 states and 33 US cities.
The organization’s dedication to social well-being is further demonstrated by their healthcare initiatives. These include a Women’s Cancer Awareness Conference held in February 2023 and blood/plasma donation drives throughout Canada and the United States in recent years. Additionally, DSNDP celebrated Earth Day 2024 by organizing a Mega Cleanliness Drive and Tree Conservation Event across 21 locations simultaneously.
