BLOOMINGTON — A Bedford man and his mother were arrested after police say they kicked in a Bloomington man’s door and beat him with a tire iron.
Police arrested 38-year-old Phillip Dean Magness Jr., of Bedford, and his mother, 56-year-old Jamie Jo Staten, of Farmersburg, on charges of burglary with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon, and criminal mischief.
The two were arrested after Bloomington Police Department officers responded to an apartment complex on July 12 at roughly 9:20 a.m. after a report of an assault.
Police found the male victim with a swollen and bruised face. Blood was located around the apartment.
The victim told officers that Staten had been staying at his apartment and left but returned around midnight with her son.
The victim said Magness kicked in the door and struck him in the face with a tire iron.
Bloomington police reviewed security camera footage that showed Staten and Magness walking up to the apartment’s front door. Staten is seen carrying a tire iron.
Police said Magness kicked the door several times before the pair entered the apartment. Magness fled shortly afterward, and Staten did not leave until officers arrived.
