Registration for Lincoln Green Thumbs is open

BEDFORD – Calling all budding gardeners! Is your child interested in a fun and educational after-school activity? Look no further than Lincoln Green Thumbs! This gardening club is open to students in grades K-6 at Lincoln Elementary School. Sign up online by August 14th to secure a spot, with acceptance notifications sent on August 16th. The club kicks off on Tuesday, August 20th, running after school until 4:30 PM.

Lincoln Green Thumbs isn’t just about planting seeds. It’s about teaching children environmental responsibility and the joys of gardening. This program teaches your child to germinate seeds, grow various plants, and master proper weeding techniques. They’ll also gain a deeper understanding of the importance of pollinators and discover the fun of cooking with fresh vegetables and herbs. Plus, they’ll explore recycling and composting practices while getting their hands dirty and having fun!

Learning goes beyond the garden at Lincoln Green Thumbs. Students participate in a plant booth at the Bedford Farmers Market each fall and spring. This hands-on experience allows them to develop essential skills like communication, leadership, problem-solving, initiative, organization, and teamwork.

There are a few things to keep in mind. Students should wear play clothes and comfortable shoes for outdoor activities, as the club gets dirty. Light snacks are provided each Tuesday. It’s important to note that the school does not financially support the club, so proceeds from plant sales go towards purchasing necessary supplies. Parents interested in volunteering must undergo a background check.
