Tip lands Bedford man in jail on meth charges

BEDFORD – An Indiana State Trooper of the Drug Enforcement Section arrested a Bedford man after receiving information about a male dealing drugs from his residence in the 700 block of Glendale Way.

Doug Harlan

The trooper set up surveillance on the home and noticed a white Chevrolet van pull up to it. A man, 39-year-old Doug Harlan, exited the van and entered the house. After a few minutes, Harlan exited the house. The trooper followed Harlan from the home onto State Road 47 and, after observing several traffic violations, stopped the van. Some of those violations included traveling 70 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone, following another vehicle too close, and failing to utilize his turn signal twice when making lane changes.

Sheriff Greg Day caught up with Harlan and conducted a traffic stop on Trogdon Lane, just east of State Road 37.

Deputy Josh Rhoades and his canine partner Dusty arrived and conducted an exterior search of the vehicle. Dusty alerted officers to drugs in the van.

During the search, Sheriff Day found a digital scale containing residue inside a fast food bag on the floorboard beside the driver’s seat.

Harlan was detained. In his pants pocket, police found 9.5 grams of crystal meth.

Harlan is facing charges of possession of meth between five and ten grams, a Level 5 felony.
