NLCS superintendent Kevin Yancey pens letter to parents of student bus riders

LAWRENCE COUNTY— In a heartfelt letter addressing the parents of bus riders, NLCS Superintendent Kevin Yancey outlined new cost-effective measures to ensure student safety and improve transportation services. The communication, released on Tuesday, emphasizes the school’s commitment to finding a more cost-effective busing system and maintaining open lines of communication with families. Yancey’s letter seeks to reassure parents while detailing the steps to enhance the overall bus-riding experience for students, which also aligns with their budget.

The letter that was sent is below.

Dear parents and guardians,

I hope this letter finds you and your family well and enjoying the summer break. As the Superintendent of North Lawrence Community Schools, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. We are excited to see our students return and are committed to providing a safe, enriching, and engaging educational experience for all.

Kevin Yancey

The first day of school for students will be Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Our dedicated staff has been working diligently over the summer to prepare for a smooth and successful start to the academic year.

This school year, we have reorganized our bus routes to be more cost-effective in response to increased operating expenses over the past few years. We ask for your patience and understanding during this transition. Bus drivers will contact parents regarding route changes by July 29, 2024. If you have any concerns, please contact our transportation department at 812-279-6322 or email: brownstacey@nlcs.k12.in.us.

We are looking forward to a fantastic school year filled with learning, growth, and new opportunities. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school or the district office.

Together, we will make this a great year for our students and community.

Sincerely,

Kevin R. Yancy

Superintendent, North Lawrence Community Schools
