ORANGE COUNTY- The Orange County Historical Society will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Historic Lindley House Museum on Saturday, July 27th. The event will be held (weather permitting) at the Thomas Elwood Lindley House in Paoli and will run from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Planned activities include guided house tours, special guests, musical entertainment by Lick Creek Band, arts & crafts, heritage-related activities & more. Hometown Scoops will be offering cool and delicious ice cream treats. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.
The Thomas Elwood Lindley House was built on land granted in 1812 to Jonathan Lindley (1756-1828) when he left North Carolina to settle in Orange County. Jonathan was the grandfather of Thomas Elwood Lindley (1825-1900). The house is restored partly to reflect its use as a farm home from the mid-1850s to the 1860s. Society members have made several enhancements to the farmhouse in recent years. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
The property remained in the Lindley Family until it was deeded to the Orange County Historical Society in 1974 by the great-great-grandson, H. Carl Thompson and Dorothy Farlow Thompson for the purpose of a museum.
The event is FREE; however, donations will be accepted to help preserve the historic home site. The historic Lindley House is at 1563 W. Willow Creek Rd., Paoli.
