BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of an unsafe shooting in the 300 block of Sams Road on June 25, 2024.
Police arrested 48-year-old Kristepher A. Cutsinger, of Bedford, on felony charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and possession of meth less than five grams with enhanced circumstances.
According to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Andrew Tillett, a neighbor reported Cutsinger, who was his neighbor, was shooting unsafely, and he believed one of the rounds struck his van and busted out the window.
When police responded, the caller phoned back, saying Cutsinger was again firing off rounds. The dispatcher could hear the shots being fired in the background.
When police arrived, they found Cutsigner on his front porch. A shot busted out the window of Cutsigner’s red 2006 Toyota SIE.
They also found the window of a van shot out. A spent 9mm round was located in the back of the floorboard van.
This was not the first time police had responded to Cutsinger firing off rounds unsafely.
While speaking with Cutsinger, Deputy Tillett found numerous 9mm shell casings on the porch and unfired rounds.
Cutsigner told police he had not fired his weapon off the porch that day but did shoot out back of his home.
Police requested to take his weapon, and he refused that request. They then told Cutsigner they would apply for a search warrant for his home.
He told police once his daughters left, he would be okay with giving consent to police to search the home.
While the daughters were preparing to leave, Capt. Harrison Fleetwood and Capt. Lonnie Johnson arrived to assist. Cutsinger signed a consent to search form, and officers entered the home. In the bathroom, police found a pill grinder, which Cutsinger attempted to hide by blocking the officer’s view with his body. The grinder had meth residue on it.
Cutsigner pointed to a closet where the firearms were located. Capt. Johnson and Deputy Tillett found and seized a Ruger Security-9 9mm handgun containing a 15-round magazine containing 13 rounds and a Taurus 22 handgun.
Capt. Fleetwood then noticed the Cutsinger had grabbed something from a mirror as officers entered the closet. The mirror tested positive for meth. Cutsinger had grabbed a straw used to snort the drug. Police also located an Altoids mint container next to the mirror that contained 1.47 grams of meth.
Cutsinger was detained.
He admitted he had been using meth for two years.
