Obituary: Edgar ‘Ed’ Eugene Maxwell

April 22, 1929 – July 22, 2024

Edgar Eugene “Ed” Maxwell, 95, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, at
Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Bedford.

He was born in Lawrence County on April 22, 1929, to Charles and Lela Taylor Maxwell. He married Sharon Hall on Jan 17, 1951, and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2003.

Ed was an Oolitic High School graduate, class of 1949. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict as a member of the 101st Airborne Unit. He was also a member of the Park Place Church of God, Bedford Senior Citizens, Oolitic VFW, American Legion Gillen Post #33 and Masonic Lodge #14, F. & A.M. Ed retired from the United States Post Office as a clerk after working 30 years.

Surviving to cherish Ed’s memory are his son, William “Bill” (Cynthia) Maxwell; two granddaughters, Stephani (Cam) Spinks and Shonda Arnold; eight great-grandchildren, Dakota, Curtis, Addison, Daniel, Austin, Averi, Jayleigh, and Dylan.

Preceding Ed in death were his parents; wife, Sharon; two sons, Gerry and Danny; four sisters,
Geneva, Grace, Alma, and Barbara; and four brothers, James Arthur, Doyle, Dale, and Clytus.

Funeral services for Ed will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, Bedford. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Cemetery and Memorial Gardens with military rites accorded by American Legion Gillen Post 33. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 23rd, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m, also at Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
