MITCHELL—There is nothing quite like the sound of a roaring engine and the smell of exhaust to get your inner car enthusiast out. The 3rd annual Cement City Cruise-In took place last Saturday, July 20, at Lehigh Field in Mitchell and drew an amazing collection of vintage and modern cars.
Vintage muscle cars and hot rods were most prevalent, but trucks and motorcycles also made a terrific showing. Even a custom boat or two were on display.
Classic service vehicles such as firetrucks and wreckers always attract attention, and several were in attendance.
“The best part is seeing what everyone brings,” said John “Stumpy” Mitchell, who brought his prized 1979 Corvette to the show, “It’s neat to see something new; even after years of doing car shows, you always see something new.”
Corvettes and Mustangs made up the majority, but every kind of car, from hot rods to family station wagons, was on display for all to admire.
After looking at all the automotive eye candy, food trucks and vendors were present to cater to culinary or shopping needs. A swap meet was a new addition to the event this year.
Thanks to all who organized and staffed the event. It was a great show, with smiles all around. The vehicles and atmosphere were amazing, and the community is looking forward to getting to do it again in 2025.
