Bedford reminds residents of curbside recycling services

BEDFORD – The City of Bedford, Indiana, promotes recycling and sustainable practices. To improve convenience and accessibility, the city has implemented curbside recycling services for its residents.

The recycling truck will visit each neighborhood every other week. It follows the same schedule as the automated trash truck.

Residents can recycle various materials, including plastic bottles and jugs, aluminum cans, steel cans, glass bottles and jars, cardboard, and mixed paper (newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc.).

To ensure efficient recycling, residents are encouraged to follow these guidelines: Rinse containers before recycling, remove lids from bottles and jars, flatten cardboard boxes, bundle newspapers and magazines, and place recycling materials in a designated blue bin.

If you have more recyclables than can fit in your provided bin, you can use additional containers such as five-gallon buckets, crates, or even trash cans. Please separate items into the proper categories.

Customers of Bedford City Utilities received a trifold pamphlet about curbside recycling in the mail with their monthly bill.

For those who prefer to drop off their recyclables, the Recycling Center is located at 3326 Mitchell Road. It is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact the Sanitation Department at 812-279-9222 or the Utilities Department at 812-275-1626.

The City of Bedford encourages residents to visit the Lawrence County Solid Waste Management District website for more recycling and waste management information.

Bedford residents can participate in the curbside recycling program to conserve resources, reduce waste, and create a cleaner environment for future generations.
