BEDFORD—At approximately 7:00 a.m. on July 22, BPD Officer Steve Hatton was dispatched to a home in the 1000 block of 24th Street about a report that a male had attempted to illegally enter a motor vehicle. At 6:39 a.m., a man can be seen in security camera footage at the home attempting to open the driver’s door of the vehicle. After the man finds out the car is locked, he can be seen walking to where the neighbors have their cars parked.
After speaking with the resident, Officer Hatton spoke with another victim in the 1000 block of 24th Street. She reported that a firearm, a Ruger .380 pistol, had been stolen from her unlocked vehicle. Upon seeing the camera footage, she identified the man as her neighbor, who she believed was named Adam.
Officers went to the address where they were told the suspected thief lived to make contact. When officers knocked on the door, it was not secure, and it swung open to reveal a man wearing clothes that matched the surveillance footage lying on the floor. When officers attempted to wake the man, they located a firearm near his feet, which was secured. They woke the man, Adam D. Henderson, 28, of Bedford. He was shown the surveillance footage and advised that items in his possession had been recently reported stolen, to which he replied he had been drinking due to a break-up and couldn’t remember anything he had done the night prior.
Adam Henderson was arrested on the following charges:
Unlawful entry to a motor vehicle x2, Theft, Theft of a firearm x2, and Unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
