BEDFORD – A Bedford man on Friday, July 26, was arrested on a domestic battery charge after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Brenten Trueblood responded to a domestic dispute in the 80 block of Sunny Acres Drive.
A woman reported John Cowden “had put his hands on her.”
Deputies Andrew Tillett also responded.
Police noted in their report that earlier that day at 4:50 p.m. officers responded after a report of Cowden and his neighbor had gotten into a dispute.
When police returned to the home, 53-year-old Cowden answered the door
Cowden told officers, “I haven’t done a damn thing to her.”
Police found the female hysterically crying in another room.
She told the police, “Ever since you guys left it’s gone to hell.” She claimed Cowden had been in her face, swearing, and had grabbed her by the neck. There were marks on the woman’s neck.
She said Cowden had been drinking most of the day.
Cowden was hostile to the woman in front of the officers.
Officers spoke with Cowden and he claimed the woman was mad because he was calling his ex-girlfriend. Cowden then admitted that he was in a relationship with the two women at the same time.
Cowden was arrested on a charge of domestic battery. He submitted to a breath test and had a blood alcohol level of 0.205 percent. He was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a medical evaluation due to his high level of intoxication. Once medically cleared he was transported to jail.
