BEDFORD – A Mitchell man was arrested after Bedford Police officers responded to a report of an unwanted person in the 2000 block of 33rd Street on July 8, 2024.
The female caller reported that 45-year-old Darick Reynolds was yelling and beating on the door to her home.
While en route, police received information that Reynolds had left in a white Dodge Charger.
Officers began searching for the vehicle. Officer Clay Blackburn responded to the home on 33rd Street.
The woman told Officer Blackburn that she and her 9-year-old son were in the home. She said Reynolds had been sleeping on her porch because he was not allowed inside the home. She told police she was outside on the doorway threshold and asked Reynolds if their son could use Reynold’s phone. That is when Reynolds entered the home, pushed the woman up against a wall, and held her there. Reynolds made several threats, including he was going to kill the woman. The son confirmed the incident.
The woman told police she didn’t know what set Reynolds off. She reported he had been physically violent with her in the past, but she never reported the incidents. While speaking with police, Reynolds called the woman several times. During those calls, officers heard Reynolds being verbally abusive, shouting profanities.
Two other young children, ages seven and five, were also in the home during the incident. But they did not witness the confrontation.
The woman told police she was in fear for her life, and Reynolds never had permission to come into the house.
Police were unable to find Reynolds. They made extra patrols in the area and told the woman to call 911 if Reynolds returned. The Department of Child Services was also contacted and made aware of the incident.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was issued for Reynolds’ arrest on charges of domestic battery in the presence of a minor, burglary, intimidation, and residential entry.
