Obituary: Ralph Edward Anderson

September 12, 1934 – July 27, 2024

Ralph Edward Anderson, 89, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024, at his residence.

He was born September 12, 1934, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Walter and Winnie Smith Anderson. He married Mary Lou Smith on June 19, 1953, and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2022.

Ralph graduated from Purdue University School of Pharmacy. He was a pharmacist and member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Bedford and Bedford Elks Lodge. He was the past president of the Indiana Board of Pharmacy and an Indiana State Representative in 1973. Ralph was a recipient of Sagamore of the Wabash in 1988, Bowl of Hygiea in 1976, Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year in 2023, and a member of the Kiwanis Club.

Surviving to cherish Ralph’s memory are his children, Dale Anderson, Mike Anderson, Carol and Fred Harris, Steve Anderson, and Ann (Rusty) Garrison, all of Bedford; grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Inman, Whitney Jacks, Brooke (Paul) Mosqueda and Brontee Hall Anderson, all of Bedford, Josh (Laura) Anderson of Bradenton, Florida, Crystal Anderson of San Antonio, Texas, Sarah (Jason) Mathis of Bloomington, and Tony (Cynthia) Wray of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Maverick, Connor and Colton Anderson, Tucker, Wesleigh and Kutter Inman, Layla and Sawyer Mathis, Gabriel and Marceline Jacks, Lilyana Mosqueda and Jackson, Haley and Derek Wray; one sister, Mildred Simpson, of Mooresville, Indiana.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Lou Anderson; daughter-in-law, Melissa Hall Anderson; two brothers, Walter and Phillip; and two sisters, Dorothy and Juanita.

Funeral services for Ralph will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, Bedford, on Friday, Aug. 2,
2024, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Martin Keller officiating. A private family burial will follow at Ikerd cemetery. Visitation will be held at Calvary Lutheran on Friday, August 2, from 10:00 until the time of the service.

Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church, 3705 Austin Ave, Bedford, in Ralph’s memory.
