Jannie Joyce King, 88, of Bedford, died peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2024, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
She was born October 1, 1935, in Marengo, IN, the sixth child of George W. and Eliza (Summers) Parks. She and Theodore “Ted” King married on April 7, 1951, and spent more than 70 years together in Indiana and Missouri until her death.
Jannie was known for her calm presence, big smile, and wry wit. She expressed her love of family by caring for her younger siblings, her children, and her husband as long as she had strength. She was artistic, an avid reader, and a talented cook who made delectable chicken and dumplings.
Jannie faced life’s adversities with a grace that was inspiring and humbling. She was a beautiful example of quiet perseverance. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Jannie is survived by her husband, Ted King of Bedford, IN, and two sons, Mark King of Greensburg, and David King of Bedford. Also surviving are her sisters, Rosetta Parks Trent and Mary Parks Geary, and her
brother, George W. (Kathy) Parks, Jr., and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jannie was preceded in death by her daughter Pam King Holt and son, Gregory Stephen King.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
