BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence opened the 2024 season by finishing sixth in the loaded Bloomington South Invitational during girls high school golf action at Bloomington Country Club on Monday.

The No.19 Stars carded a team total of 339. No.1 Noblesville won the title with 313, followed by No.2 Westfield (321), No.4 Floyd Central (327), No.5 Franklin (327) and No.7 Center Grove (337) in the 17-team field.

Kinleigh Root paced BNL with an 80 (eighth in the field), while senior Ellie Horton carded an 83 (with birdies on the third, eighth and 16th holes).

“It’s not a bad showing for our first tournament of the season,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said. “We definitely had some nerves with the freshmen, but I’m proud of them for staying in it and fighting through.

“It was a hot day and the greens were super fast, so putters were struggling. We were only two strokes out of fourth, so overall I’m satisfied. Ellie did a great job of recovering and playing smart. Her veteran experience really showed today. Kinleigh also had a pretty solid round going but had just a few putts get away from us.”

Sammie Nusbaum totaled an 87 while freshman Emma Endris capped the BNL scoring with 89.

Westfield’s Addi Kooi was the medalist with a sizzling 2-under 70, while Floyd Central’s Paige Giovenco was the runner-up with a 71.

BNL will compete in the Seymour Invitational on Tuesday.
