Obituary: Paula Ann Bridwell Chastain

February 28, 1941 – July 29, 2024

On the 29th of July 2024, Paula Ann Chastain passed away peacefully due to cancer at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington. She was 83 years old.

Paula was born in Bedford on February 28, 1941, the third of five children born to Paul and Eunice “Toots” Bridwell. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1959 and married Stanley Chastain in May 1960.

Paula, a congenial Christian lady, was well-known in the community. She was in a bowling league, euchre and bridge card clubs, and a volleyball club. She was a long-time member of the Free Methodist Church, served on the ladies auxiliary Boys Club board, and served on IU Health Bedford Hospital’s Patient/Family Advisory Council. She also worked at the NLCS administration building for 20 years.

After raising her children and following the death of her daughter, Heidi, Paula adopted and raised her granddaughters, Erika and Amber. She loved her family and friends dearly and took every opportunity to get together and enjoy their company.

Paula was preceded in death by her parents, two children, Erik and Heidi, and her siblings Jerry, Sue Ferrell, and Mike.

Paula is survived by her husband, Stanley; her children, Thomas Jay (Gina), Erika Tobin, and Amber (Andy) Romisch; grandchildren, Kacie (Davey) Field, Alec (Aly) Chastain, Quinn Chastain; two and 1/2 great-grandchildren; her brother, Derek Bridwell; many nieces and nephews and by hundreds of truly wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, with Pastor Adam Strausser officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at the mortuary.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests donating to Life Pantry or the Bedford Free Methodist Church’s local Benevolence Fund in Paula’s memory.
