Officials clear Dunn Meadows, fence erected after trustees pass new guidelines for protesters

BLOOMINGTON— On Friday, Indiana University fenced off and cleared the remaining pro-Palestine encampment in Dunn Meadows.

Friday was the 100th day of protests held in the area.

In June 2024, IU’s Board of Trustees proposed a new, university-wide expressive activity policy and solicited stakeholder comments. The board voted on Monday, July 29th, and approved an expressive activity policy that sets new guidelines for when, where, and how the IU community can protest on campus. That plan went into effect on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

Tom Morrison, Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities, said, “The heavy use of that space since April and placement of temporary structures unfortunately damaged the area, necessitating extensive repairs now that the structures have been removed.”
