Two women arrested after high-speed police chase, two young children in back seat

EDINBURGH — Two women are facing multiple charges after police say they were caught stealing merchandise from a mall, fled, and led police on a high-speed chase while they had children in the car.

A 27-year-old woman and a 33-year-old woman were arrested for multiple theft charges, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, and child endangerment.

According to a release from the Edinburgh Police Department, on Friday, August 3, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on US 31 and Interstate 65 after a report that the occupants had stolen items from the Indiana Premium Outlet Mall.

The car fled northbound on I-65, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.

Multiple agencies responded to assist. Stop sticks were set up near mile marker 90, near the State Road 44 exit in Franklin. The Stopsticks worked, and the suspect’s vehicle was forced to pull over with two flat tires.

Police arrested two women, 27-year-old Alea Turentine and 33-year-old Breanna Johnson, on multiple theft charges, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, and child endangerment.

Police say two children were also found inside the car but were unharmed. The children, a 2-year-old and a 10-year-old were released to a family member.

Edinburgh police say no one was injured in the incident.
