Bloomington’s Green Acres neighborhood to be considered for local conservation district status

BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will meet to consider an application to designate the Green Acres Neighborhood as a local Conservation District.

The Green Acres neighborhood is between the IU Campus, East 3rd Street, the State Road 46 Bypass, and the Illinois Central Railroad tracks. Developed from the 1920s through the 1960s, the neighborhood is characterized predominantly by small-lot single-family homes in craftsman and mid-century styles.

If the HPC votes to favor the proposal, the recommendation will go to the Common Council for consideration. The decision to designate Green Acres as a Conservation District ultimately rests with the Council.

More information about the Conservation Districts and Historic Districts can be found on the City website.

The meeting will take place on Monday, Aug. 12, at 5 p.m. in the Hooker Conference Room, City Hall, room 245. The public is invited to attend in person or online via Zoom.
