BEDFORD – As North Lawrence Community School children start classes on Wednesday, Lawrence County Prosecutor Sam Arp shared these safety guidelines.
“As the school year starts again, my office would like to remind the community of a few things to keep the children of Lawrence County safe,” said Prosecutor Arp.
Parents, guardians, and community members should follow these guidelines to create a safe and healthy environment for all:
- Always stop for school buses. Failure to stop for a school bus can result in jail time and fines.
- Practice safety at the bus stop. Parents should accompany their children to the bus stop and report any safety concerns to local and school officials.
- Watch out for walkers and pedestrians while driving. Pedestrians should also be aware of vehicle traffic and use sidewalks and crosswalks.
- Follow all speed limits. Be cautious of areas that have reduced speed during school hours.
- Always buckle up when you drive, and don’t begin a trip without ensuring all additional passengers are properly buckled in their seats.
“We all have a responsibility to keep our children safe, so please do your part,” added Prosecutor Arp.
