Man struck by a vehicle while weed-eating ditch

SALEM – A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a vehicle in the 4000 block of East Canton Road on Thursday, August 1.

Washington County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Salem Fire Department first responders responded at approximately 10:29 a.m.

According to Sgt. Matthew Hein, 65-year-old Anita Lee of Franklin, Kentucky, was traveling east on Canton Road in a white Cadillac XT6. When Lee crested a hill, she struck 54-year-old Russell Larson of Pekin, who was using a gas-powered trimmer along the south side of the road. Larson was weed-eating in the ditch and had his back to the roadway; when he stepped backward into the roadway, he was struck by Lee’s car.

The Washington County Ambulance Service transported Larson to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Sgt. Tory Hildreth, Animal Control Officer Mike Wimmer, and members of the Salem Fire Department assisted in the investigation.
