CARMEL – Bedford North Lawrence finished 14th in the power-packed State Preview tournament during girls high school golf action at Prairie View Golf Club on Saturday.
The Stars, ranked No.19 in the preseason state poll, carded a team total of 377. No.2 Westfield won the event with 319, followed by No.3 Zionsville (320), No.1 Noblesville (326) and No.4 Floyd Central (343) in an 18-team field with 16 ranked teams.
Kinleigh Root paced the scoring for BNL with an 86 (with a birdie on the par-3 12th) that included six pars while she tied for 24th in the field.
Sammie Nusbaum (94), Emma Voris (97) and Ellie Horton (100) capped the team total for BNL, while freshman Emma Endris fired a 101.
“Prairie View got the best of us,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said. “We expected scores to jump some, but definitely a little shocked by how much they jumped.
“Root and Sammie did a great job of keeping a good mental game and scrambling where they needed to. Emma Voris also did a good job of managing the course for her first time ever seeing it. Overall we’re a little disappointed in the outcome, but we’re going to reset and come ready to play next week.”
Westfield’s Addi Kooi was the medalist with a sensational 3-under 69 that included five birdies. She won the event by five strokes.
BNL will visit Floyd Central on Monday.
