BLOOMINGTON—IU President Pamela Whitten announced that a search committee has been formed to help find the new executive vice president and chancellor of the IU Bloomington campus.
The Indiana University Board of Trustees voted in June to re-establish the position.
The Board of Trustees approved reestablishing this critical leadership role to help address unique challenges and opportunities at the Bloomington campus.
Danielle DeSawal, clinical professor of higher education and student affairs and president of the Bloomington Faculty Council, and David Daleke, professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, dean of the IU Bloomington Graduate School, and vice provost for graduate education and health sciences will co-chair the search committee, which is composed of a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
Their expertise and commitment to the campus community will be invaluable in identifying an exceptional leader. Isaacson, Miller, a proven executive search firm, has been retained and will support the co-chairs and the search committee.
A “diverse” group of students, faculty, and staff will also sit at the table. Isaacson, Miller, an executive search firm, has been hired to guide and assist the search committee.
The chancellor will report directly to President Whitten.
This new organizational leadership structure will focus on the provost’s role as the campus academic officer, reporting to the chancellor. The chancellor will assume authority over all campus operations, such as budget, student affairs, and enrollment. The chancellor will focus on enhancing faculty participation in decision-making, building stronger community relations, and promoting a deep understanding of our campus’s needs and aspirations.
All other IU regional campuses have their respective chancellors, including IU Indianapolis.
“As the university’s flagship campus, Bloomington deserves this same level of resource and attention,” Whitten said in an email.
The chancellor would run the Bloomington campus, which is the job of current Provost and Executive Vice President Rahul Shrivastav.
There is no indication of when a chancellor will be appointed.
