GALENA – No.4 Floyd Central posted wins over No.18 Bedford North Lawrence and Jennings County during girls high school golf action on the front nine at Valley View Golf Club on Monday.
The Highlanders carded a team total of 151, followed by the Stars (165) and Panthers (220).
Emma Endris paced BNL with 3-over 39 that featured a birdie on the first hole. Kinleigh Root birdied the seventh and eighth holes to recover from back-to-back double bogeys earlier in the round on her way to a 40. Ellie Horton fired a 42 and Emma Voris capped the scoring for the Stars with 44.
“It was a better round for us tonight,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said. “This was the first time the Emmas have played this course and they both navigated it pretty well overall. We’ll be back here for HHC later this season, so this was a good first showing for them.
“As a team, we have some work to do on putting. But once the putts start dropping, we have the ability to post some really good scores. We just need to keep practicing and building our confidence on and around the greens.”
Floyd’s Paige Giovenco was the medalist with a 1-under 35 that included birdies on the seventh and eighth holes, while teammates Chloe Cook and Abby Wright added 38s.
BNL will visit Springs Valley on Tuesday.
