BEDFORD – A Bedford teen was detained after being found lying on the Milwaukee Trail.
Bedford Police Officer Nick Crulo was on parole on Thursday, August 1, at 4:56 a.m., in the area of 19th Street and Sienna Drive when he found a white SUV parked off the roadway near the entrance to the Milwaukee Trail. He found a male, Dillon Robertson, leaning in front of the passenger door.
Officer Crulo stopped and spoke to Robertson. He told police he had been on the trail with his friend, 18-year-old Jaevyn Nikirk. Robertson was reminded of the trail hours, and that Stack Rock was located on private property, not on the trail. There are also no trespassing signs all around Stack Rock. While speaking with Robertson, a person exited the trail and approached them. The concerned citizen informed Officer Crulo and Sgt. Bade, a male, was lying on the trail, concerned he might have a medical emergency.
Sgt. Bade and Officer Crulo looked for the male and found him a short distance after entering the trail.
Police say it was 18-year-old Jaevyn Nikirk, and he had a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath and person. When asked where he had been, he said Stack Rock. Police say Nikirk was disoriented and needed help up and was unsteady on his feet.
Officers were able to walk Nikirk to the exit of the trail.
Nikirk submitted to a preliminary breath test and had a blood alcohol level of 0.183.
Nikirk was detained on charges of illegal consumption by a minor and public intoxication.
Robertson was transported to the Bedford Police Department and released to his mother.
Nikirk’s vehicle was secured and left at the scene, as it didn’t pose a traffic hazard.
