BLOOMINGTON– The City of Bloomington’s Engineering Department announced the closure of Rogers Street at the 1st Street intersection as part of the 1st Street Reconstruction Project.
The intersection will be closed for improvements beginning today, August 12th, with the closure anticipated to end at the beginning of October.
The closure is necessary to facilitate significant roadway reconstruction and the installation of a new water main on 1st Street across the Rogers Street intersection. Additionally, the creation of the new Rogers Street and University Street intersection associated with the Hopewell East project is being coordinated with this closure to limit impacts on the traveling public.
The 1st Street project aims to enhance the infrastructure and safety of 1st Street, between Fairview Street and College Avenue, providing long-term benefits to the community.
The project received over $4.6 million in federal construction funding and will support the redevelopment of the Hopewell neighborhood.
The 1st Street project includes a full reconstruction of the roadway, replacement and upgrades of water, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer infrastructure, tree plots separating the road from sidewalks on both sides of the street, and enhancements consistent with a Neighborhood Greenway route.
