BEDFORD – An Indianapolis man is facing a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Kenton Carter responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at 100 block of Roberts Lane on Sunday, August 11 at 2:31 p.m.
When Deputy Carter arrived he found a vehicle in the driveway and spoke to a woman who stated the vehicle belonged to Jamie Sotelo, 20, of Indianapolis. The woman said Sotelo was next door with a 15-year-old female. Deputy Carter went to the neighboring home and knocked on the door.
The female juvenile answered and she was visibly nervous. When asked who was inside the home she responded a friend. After some time, Sotelo exited the house.
He admitted the vehicle was his. He told police he was 17, but later said he was 20. The female and Sotelo were separated and Sgt. Robin Compton was requested to respond to the scene.
Sotelo was asked if the teen’s mother knew he was at her home and he said she did not. When asked if he was the teen’s boyfriend he said it was a basic relationship. He said the two just talk and cuddle.
He denied any sexual contact between the two of them.
When asked if he knew the teen was 15 he said at first he did not know but learned she was.
He later admitted he had touched her neck, chest and genitals.
The female teen admitted she had been talking to Sotelo for a month or two and met on Whiz App.
Sotelo was then detained on a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor/foundling, a Level 6 felony.
Police then received permission from the teen’s mother to enter the home. The mother, who was at work, had not given Sotelo permission to be there. She did admit she knew that her daughter was friends with Sotelo.
The Department of Child Services was contacted.
