BEDFORD – A Stinesville man was arrested after he allegedly smacked his daughter in the face.
Police arrested 36-year-old William Capps on a charge of domestic battery on a person less than 16.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on March 31, a woman came to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department to report Capps, who is her soon-to-be ex-husband, had smacked their daughter.
The woman said the two had been separated for about two years, were going through a divorce, and had no set court custody arrangements.
The woman said Capps had just dropped off their son and asked the boy to go get his sister because Capps wanted to speak to her. The girl walked outside and he asked her to go with him the next visit. She said no and started to walk away. Capps was mad, exited his vehicle and grabbed the girl by the left arm and then by the left side of her neck. Capps then smacked the girl several times across both sides of her face.
The girl suffered a bruise on her arm and a small mark on the side of her neck. The girl’s face was puffy and red but she believed it was from the girl crying then the smack.
The girl told police her father had never really hit her before. The mother said Capps normally just verbally reprimands the children.
Deputy Christian James attempted to contact Capps, but he did not answer his phone.
The mother did not want to file charges but wanted the incident logged. She was given Hoosier Hill PACT information and the Department of Child Services was contacted.
Deputy James again attempted to contact Capps on April 2 but he did not answer the phone.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Capps arrest.
