MONTGOMERY – Ellie Horton carded an even-par 36 with a birdie barrage while leading No.18 Bedford North Lawrence to wins over Barr-Reeve and Washington during girls high school golf action on the front nine at Country Oaks on Thursday.
The Stars fired a sizzling 154, just one shot off the school record. The Vikings totaled 172, and the Hatchets finished with 174.
BNL, returning to the course where it won last year’s regional title, was on its game. Horton, posting her career-best score, had three birdies (holes 3, 6 and 9) to earn medalist honors, while Kinleigh Root was one stroke back with a 37 that featured a birdie on the ninth.
Emma Endris (40) and Emma Voris (41 with a birdie on the sixth) completed the team scoring for the Stars.
“It was a solid night for us,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said. “These are the scores we expect from them. They are all good players with so much potential, and tonight definitely showcased that.
“This was a team score. Having five players that can post good numbers any day of the week, to count in our team total, is a big advantage in girls high school golf. I’m super proud of this team, and it’s just the beginning.”
