BEDFORD –Lawrence Superior Court I Judge John M. Plummer III sentenced Damien Tyler to eight years in the Indiana Department of Correction.
Tyler, 44, pled guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon as a part of a negotiated plea agreement.
Tyler had previously been convicted of armed robbery in Vigo County in 2015, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm.
“This defendant is a serious violent felon and was in possession of a 9mm Ruger handgun,” said Chief Deputy Joshua K. Scherschel. “This plea will keep Mr Tyler from being a danger to the people of Lawrence County for a significant period of time. While this office respects the ability of our citizens to lawfully carry handguns, we will not tolerate those people who are not allowed to carry to present a danger to this community.”
