Woman steals a car and is arrested

BEDFORD— A Bedford woman is facing charges of auto theft and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle after officers were called to the 1000 block of L Street.

According to Bedford Police Officer Nick Crulo, on Wednesday, August 14, the vehicle’s owner had gone out to start his gray 2008 Pontiac G6 and then returned inside. He noticed a Jeep parked next to it before it was stolen. Police learned the Jeep belonged to 37-year-old Jessica Norris.

The caller told police he didn’t consent to anyone using the vehicle.

Officer Crulo requested Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies to check Norris’ residence to see if the stolen vehicle was there. The car was not at her home. He also alerted all other officers to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle.

A short time later, Lawrence County Capt. Fleetwood and Deputy Pruett located Norris with the vehicle at Johnny’s Junxion and detained her.

Norris admitted to taking the vehicle without permission. She told police she believed the vehicle she had taken was her car and was taking it to the Space Station. She had admitted to parking her Jeep next to the car she had taken.

Norris told police she knew who owned the vehicle. She said she believed it was the Space Station’s
and that Neil Armstrong normally leaves the car running for her. She informed Officer Pruett that she
had also taken $5 from the vehicle owner’s wallet and used it to purchase a pop.

Norris denied using any illicit drugs.

Norris was arrested on charges of auto theft and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
