Indiana State Police investigate the death of Allen County Jail inmate

FORT WAYNE – On Friday, August 16, shortly before 5:00 a.m., the Allen County Sheriff requested a detective from Indiana State Police respond to the Allen County Jail for an inmate’s death.  The inmate would be identified as Paul Green, 36, from Fort Wayne, IN.

The ISP Investigation found that Green had been incarcerated in the jail since August 8, 2024.  He was housed in cell block R3 and was on a medical watch list.  A review of the jail observation logs and video showed that at 1:50 a.m., jail staff checked on Green this same morning, and he was responsive. Motion-activated cameras in Cell R3 showed Green moving around his cell from 2:30 a.m. until 2:38 a.m.  When jail staff checked on Green at 2:50 a.m., he was unresponsive in his cell.  Jail staff immediately summoned the Jail nurse and began CPR on Green at 2:53 a.m.

Medics arrived at the jail at 3:05 a.m. Green was transported out of the jail by ambulance to Lutheran Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

On August 16, 2024, an autopsy was conducted on Green’s body at the Northeast Forensic Center.  After the autopsy, ISP Detectives were informed that the autopsy determined Paul Green died from medical issues related to an infection in his intestines.

There is no further information to release at this time.

The Indiana State Police were assisted by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
