Senator Eric Koch: Law establishing safe baby courts ceremonially signed by the governor

STATEHOUSE — On August 15, the governor ceremonially signed a law sponsored by State Senator Eric Koch (R-Bedford) establishing safe baby courts for Children In Need of Services (CHINS) three years of age or younger.

State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford, seated right) joins Gov. Eric Holcomb for the House Enrolled Act 1101 ceremonial signing at the Statehouse on Thursday, August 15.

“I’m proud to have been the sponsor of this law addressing the difficulties faced by these young children,” Koch said. “I hope this new problem-solving court system will help ensure the children and their families have the support they need.”

The new law is focused on helping find permanent homes for CHINS, who are often victims of abuse or neglect.

The new problem-solving courts will bring together biological families, foster families, DCS, and other concerned parties to ensure decisions in the best interest of the children can be made more quickly.
