James D. “Jim” Kirk, 73, of Avoca, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10:01 p.m. at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born in Bedford on May 1, 1951, to Paul E. Kirk and Phyllis J. (Cobb) Kirk. James married Janice “Jan” Holmes on July 3, 1976, in Bedford, and she survives. James attended Mitchell High School, was a member of the Indiana National Guard, drove trucks for the Lawrence County Highway Department and the Times-Mail newspaper, and drove trucks at Indiana University.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Holmes Kirk of Avoca; one daughter, Jessica (Bill) Dixon; two grandchildren, Elizabeth (Nic) Dixon and Wes (Kara) Dixon; one brother, Dan Kirk of Mitchell; and two sisters, Judy (Jim) Swartz of Bedford, and Janet (Bill) Deckard of Heltonville.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Phyllis Kirk.
Private services will be held for James ‘Jim’ Kirk on Monday at Cresthaven Funeral Home; burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
