Fatal collision in Greene County claims one life

LYONS- On the evening of Friday, August 23rd, a tragic incident occurred in the town of Lyons, resulting in the loss of a young life.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., the Greene County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a two-vehicle collision on South County Road 800 West, north of County Road 300 South.

The accident involved a 2004 Dodge Ram driven by William Kaho, a resident of Lyons. Kaho had been driving on an access road before attempting a U-turn and pulling onto County Road 800 West. Due to the height of the vegetation along the roadside, Kaho’s view was obstructed, and he failed to notice an oncoming motorcycle, a 2001 Suzuki GSX, operated by 24-year-old Maverick Johnson, also of Lyons.

According to Deputy Harvey Holt of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Kaho stopped his vehicle upon realizing the motorcycle was approaching at a high rate of speed. Despite Kaho’s attempt to reverse and Johnson’s effort to maneuver around the truck, the bike collided with the front passenger side of the Dodge Ram. The impact caused Johnson to lose control of his motorcycle, resulting in his ejection. The motorcycle ultimately came to a stop in a nearby soybean field.

Regrettably, Maverick Johnson sustained fatal injuries from the collision. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Kaho was not injured.

The accident is currently being investigated by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police.

Other Departments assisting at the scene were the Lyons Fire Department, Greene County Ambulance, and Indiana State Police.
