ORLEANS—Jackie Crane, a representative from the Southern Indiana Center for Independent Living (SICIL), was the guest speaker at the August meeting of the Orleans Kiwanis Club. Crane provided an insightful overview of SICIL’s mission and essential services to residents across eight counties in southern Indiana, including Orange, Lawrence, Monroe, Washington, Jackson, Bartholomew, Brown, and Crawford.
SICIL is dedicated to supporting Hoosiers with disabilities by offering free, individualized services to promote independence and improve quality of life. These services include information and referrals, advocacy, independent living skills training, and peer support. Crane emphasized that SICIL’s approach is highly personalized, ensuring each individual’s unique needs are met.
The meeting was also an opportunity for Kiwanis Club members to learn more about the challenges faced by people with disabilities in their communities and how organizations like SICIL are making a positive impact. Club President John F. Noblitt joined Crane in expressing appreciation for SICIL’s important work.
Looking ahead, the Orleans Kiwanis Club is preparing for its annual “Travel Month” in September. During this time, members will gather at various local churches for meals and fellowship, continuing their community engagement and support tradition.
