BLOOMINGTON— Last week may have felt like fall, but summer is not over yet. The heat index, also known as the apparent temperature, is what the human body feels like when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.
With an anticipated heat index in the oppressive range, the Tuesday Market staff and vendors want you to shop in air-conditioned comfort inside the pavilion at Switchyard Park, 1601 South Rogers Street, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Come and stock up on great produce, food, and beverage items.
Vendor Lineup for Tuesday:

- Consideration Farm – Authentic Burritos
- Graber’s Produce – Produce, Eggs & Syrup
- Living Roots Farm – Organic Produce, Meat & Eggs
- Morningside Farms – Organic and Heirloom Produce

WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) is a nutrition program, nationally recognized as an effective means for improving access to nutritious foods and promoting healthier eating and lifestyles. Eligible WIC participants are issued Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers that can be used at Market to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. Because of this grant from the Bloomington Health Foundation, WIC clients will be provided a coupon that triples the value of their FMNP benefits. That coupon can be exchanged at the Farmers’ Market for “Market Bucks,” which can be used like cash at the Market to buy food from participating vendors.
Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is designed to provide low-income seniors access to locally grown fruits, vegetables, and edible herbs and increase domestic consumption of agricultural commodities through programs like farmers’ markets. Indiana Department of Health administers the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). Because of the WIC and SFMNP similarity, Indiana chooses to administer them under a single, consolidated state plan of operation. Each voucher presented at the BCFM is worth $21 in Market Bucks.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, is a federal government program that provides food-purchasing assistance for low- and no-income persons to help them maintain adequate nutrition and health. The Bloomington Parks Foundation is continuing its support of the Double Market Bucks program by doubling the amount of SNAP benefits at the Market up to $27 per Market day.
In addition to shopping at the Saturday Farmers’ Markets, recipients of these State and federal assistance programs should strongly consider visiting the Tuesday Market due to the ease of parking, smaller crowds, readily available produce, and outdoor amenities at Switchyard Park.
