BEDFORD—On September 6th and 7th, the Knights of Columbus will conduct their 47th Annual Tootsie Roll Drive to benefit local citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Monies raised from this event will help the Lawrence County Arc, which provides job training and employment opportunities for mentally challenged adults. Drive proceeds will also benefit Lawrence County Special Olympics and special education students within North Lawrence Community Schools, Mitchell Community Schools, St. Vincent de Paul School, Lawrence County Independent Schools, and the Springville Community Academy.
Since the first drive in 1978, the local Knights of Columbus Council in Bedford has raised over a half-million dollars to fund various tools and capabilities that help local children and adults with disabilities. Several examples include furnishings for life-skills classrooms, accessible playground equipment, instructional supplies for special education classes from pre-school through Grade 12, and awnings to shelter disabled children from the weather as they travel between the school and the bus. Drive proceeds allow organizations that serve some of our most special citizens to grow their capabilities at a rate that would be difficult to fund from their regular operating budgets.
On September 6th and 7th, the knights and other volunteers will solicit donations at Walmart, Rural King, Price Less IGA, and Johnny Junxions. Your generosity is very much needed and appreciated. Donations can also be mailed to Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive, 2202 M Street, Bedford, IN 47421.
