Jennings conquers BNL tennis 3-2

BNL’s Neal Patel and the Stars dropped a 3-2 decision to Jennings County on Tuesday.

BEDFORD – Jennings County clipped Bedford North Lawrence 3-2 during boys high school tennis action on Tuesday.

The Panthers survived the hot conditions on the courts to cool off the Stars, who had recorded their first win just 24 hours earlier.

“To be so close on so many matches, it hurts,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “We played a great match on Monday but it just didn’t follow through. It was a hot one, but we have to face every adverse challenge with an answer or we end up second guessing and not playing great tennis.”

Jennings won two singles matches. Parker Bales bounced Jackson Corey 6-1, 6-0 at No.1, while Ty Zohrlaut topped Asher Thompson 6-2, 6-1 at No.3. BNL’s Braxton Fugate won at No.2 singles when Luke Napier retired with heat illness in the second set.

The Panthers also won at No.1 doubles as Cole Skinner and Brady Sentz stopped Orion Hill and Neal Patel 6-2, 6-1. BNL’s Micah Carter and Wyatt Corbin defeated Lucius Stidham and Asher Morin 6-2, 6-3 at No.2.

“It has to be this heat that’s killing us,” Dillman said. “We did so well against Columbus in the heat, but when we faced a little more consistent opponent we tend to freak out and miss our shots. We have to work on being present in our match. Regardless of the weather, our rackets or just our mood, we have to show up and fight to win.”

BNL (1-6) will host Brown County on Thursday.
