October 25, 1946 – August 24, 2024
Brenda Sue Elkins, 77, of Bedford, IN, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at McCormick’s Creek Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Spencer, IN, after a long battle with various health issues.
She was born on October 25, 1946, in Martin County, Indiana, to the late Glen Charles Elkins and Dorothy Lundy McGuire. Brenda held various jobs over the years in the food service industry and spent the last of her employment years in the home healthcare field caring for the elderly. She was proud of her Cherokee background, and whenever possible, she liked to attend local Native American events and gatherings to learn more about her heritage. One of the highlights of her year was the annual family reunion, which she looked forward to like a child eagerly waiting for Christmas morning.
Her home was her sanctuary, and she was content with staying within her four walls and spending her weekday evenings preparing herself something to eat and then watching the Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy before retiring. She loved the Lord and enjoyed watching Christian programming and reading her Bible. Her family loved her and will be missed tremendously until that day when they are all reunited on the other side of the veil.
Brenda is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Edward) Barbarick of Gosport, IN; son, Jeff Watson of Owen County, IN; three grandchildren, Jessica Harris, Jeremy Barbarick, and Casey Barbarick; three great-grandchildren, Gloria Harris, Anchor Harris, and Leanne Harris; siblings, Brent Elkins and Julia Rund; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Leanne Marie Watson; and siblings, Louis Elkins and Charles Beheler.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford, with licensed minister David Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Mundell Cemetery in Heltonville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29th, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., also at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel in Bedford.
