Charges filed against two Michigan City men for neglect of an animal

MICHIGAN CITY – Charges were filed against two Indiana men after a year-long investigation. The incident stemmed from an occurrence in July of 2023 where nine canines perished due to being transported in a box truck in dangerous heat conditions.

The suspects, Michael McHenry, 55, and Jessee Urbaszewski, 44, from Michigan City, IN, are charged with 18 counts of neglect of a vertebrate animal.

Despite agreeing to turn themselves in, neither suspect has done so, and warrants have been issued for their arrests.

The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office has requested the Indiana State Police to investigate the recent deaths of multiple canines in Lake Station, Indiana, which came to light on July 27, 2023. Numerous canines were found in the back of a box truck traveling from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago to a training facility in Michigan.
