Conservation officer praised for saving woman from house fire

SHOALS – An Indiana Conservation Officer is credited with saving a life after helping rescue a woman from a house fire.

On Monday, August 26, at 12:20 p.m., ICO Kendrick Fuhrman was on patrol when he responded to a house fire in the 800 block of High Street in Shoals. One of the first to arrive on the scene, bystanders told him that people were still inside the home.

Fuhrman entered the burning home and located a male and a female. The female needed help getting out, and Fuhrman and the male assisted her as they exited before flames engulfed the house. 

After ensuring the occupants were safe from the house, Fuhrman helped the Shoals Volunteer Fire Department try to control the blaze. 

Officer Fuhrman is a 2009 Graduate of Shoals High School in Martin County. He then pursued his Conservation Law Enforcement degree from Vincennes University, graduating in 2011. Officer Fuhrman began his career as an Indiana Conservation Officer in August 2012.

Other agencies responding to the scene included Medic One, Martin County Sheriff’s Department, Duke Energy, and Martin County Civil Defense Fire Department.
